Pointe du Hoc Oct 17, 1992
On Oct 17, 1992, during a European vacation, I traveled to the Normandy coast of France, to visit Pointe du Hoc, where my father, S/Sgt Richard McLaughlin of the 116th Infantry Division, 2nd Ranger Battalion, Company D, on June 6, 1944, D-Day, came ashore with his unit as part of the Allied invasion of Europe. The French people have left the Pointe largely as it was, as a memorial and tribute to those men who fought and died for their freedom.
